Kirsten Møller Nielsen is a Danish artist and designer. Her work is concerned with the contrast between light and shadow, fragility and robustness as well as highlighting and calling attention to negative space. Repetition and the meditation involved in repetition is also an important part of her working practice. The knot is an essential symbol presented in the pieces below. The symbol of the knot has many and varied meanings in different cultures - the fortune paper (O-mikuji) in Japanese temples, the Danish “huske-knude” knot as well as references to marriage, eternity and many other cultural connotations.
